Compost Team Member (Pilot Program)

Description
Position Overview:
Serves as one of the dish/utility student team members for Dining Services operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited
to, sorting and separating compostable items from dishware, pots, pans, utensils, cooking equipment, and kitchen equipment.
Duties include separating compostable materials from trash to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to the landfill.

Position Responsibilities:
Consciously sort and remove compostable items from dishware, ensuring a clean stream of compost
Place compostable materials in the proper receptacles, place landfill waste in proper receptacles
Scrape, rinse, scrub, and organize washable items (trays, bowls, plates, cups, glasses, silverware, etc.)
Weigh both compostable materials and trash and prepare for distribution to composting facilities or landfill
Work alongside dish sanitation team members
Work with chemicals including industrial cleaning materials
Empty and clean all trash and compost receptacles
Report any custodial issues to the appropriate party
Qualifications

Willingness to improve skills
Experience/training in dish room operations
Experience sorting compostable materials and knowledge of what is compostable

High level of punctuality and dependability
Ability to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to work safely, being aware of personal safety and the safety of others
Willingness to work in a hot, humid environment and on your feet for 2 or more hours
Ability to work as a member of a team as well as be self directed
